The young poet

A poem about a young poet in East Germany of the late 1980s

Poems – bigger than life!
Poets – more important than death!
Punching!
Wagons!
Revolution!
Sad dogs!
Hunger!
The NKVD!
The girls are used as hot-water bottles in our ice-cold beds!
Bring us more hot water bottles and more poems!
From the publishing house!
Poet and poetess we want to be!
Artists!
The German crowd
despise!
Mutti sends remittances
Bank book!
Cheap cigarettes!
Red wine – Bulls blood!
We are being monitored!
